This year the Winter Gasshuku was held at the Nuffield Health & Fitness Centre in Chichester.

Clubs from Chichester, Denmead, Canons, SMKC, Tadworth, Dover and Lydd were in attendance on both days.

At the end of training on Saturday, Stednet Gray and Jean Wedja both took their 5th Dan grading. After a strong performance, both were successful. In the evening the group enjoyed an evening meal at the local ‘Wildwood’ restaurant in Chichester.

This year Washinkai held its annual festive Instructors’ Dinner at a new venue in Ripley, Surrey on the 17th December.

The majority of clubs in the UK were represented and everybody enjoyed not only the quality of the food but also the quantity!

Sensei Thompson stated all the clubs were growing again after the devastating loss of members due to Covid and it was good to see that it wasn’t just juniors resuming, but also adults.

On Friday 18 November Shihan Chris Thompson met up with our Chief Instructor in Washinkai Spain, Sensei Geovanny Sanchez Salazar 5th Dan, for a two day gasshuku.

In the evening Heather Morton and her eldest son Elliott Morton were attempting 3rd Dan and 4th Dan respectively.  On the panel were Shihan Chris Thompson and Sensei Gines Fernandez Oller 8th Dan, the Valencian Karate Federation (VKF) Representative together with Sensei Geovanny.  Both Heather and Elliott were successful, so many congratulations to them on their hard work!
