Summer Gasshuku 2021 Review

Posted by Shihan on

After the Covid-19 Pandemic prevented us from having our annual summer course at Milton Abbey last year (2020), expectations were high about this year’s course.  Fortunately, timing was perfect as it coincided with the opening of the country, but unfortunately Covid hit some of our members at the last minute!

“Freedom Day” was also the first day of the Gasshuku.  The weather could not have been better, probably as hot as last year and the year before that.

Life advice given by Ieyasu Tokugawa – First Shogun of Japan 1543-1616

“Life is like a long journey with a heavy load.  Let thy steps be slow and steady, that thou stumble not.  Persuade thyself that imperfection and inconvenience is the natural lot of mortals and there will be no room for discontent, nor for despair.  When ambitious desires arise in thy heart, recall the days of extremes thou hast passed through.  Forbearance is the root of quietness and assurance forever.

Sad News

It is with great sadness that we report the death after a long term illness of Chris Dunne, 3rd Dan, from our Tadworth Club on Thursday 25 March 2021

Many of you will remember Chris Dunne who attended our summer gasshukus at Milton Abbey and also at our Spring Gasshuku in Spain.

Chris, who started with Wado-Ryu karate in the 1970s, knew many of the instructors that Sensei Chris Thompson trained with and was a mine of knowledge regarding Wado Ryu Karate.  He will be sadly missed.  RIP
