Washinkai Karate held its annual summer Gasshuku at Milton Abbey School from the 22nd July to 25th July this year.  The School has been our regular home since Sensei Chris Thompson established karate there in 1988.  We were blessed with beautiful weather all week in record breaking temperatures.  Training was challenging in the heat, but with frequent water breaks, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Successful gradings were held with Darren Magri achieving 1st kyu, Emelia Parry and Paul Westron and Paul Starkey becoming Shodan.  Ashley Webb and James Thompson took their 2nd Dans with both Chris Dunn and Pete Saunders became 3rd Dans.

Sensei Ohta came down on Thursday to teach two advanced Shotokan Kata on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year.  Sensei Ohta knows many of our students and is always warmly received.

It was a superb week and everybody is now looking forward to the summer course in 2020.
