I started Karate in the early part of 1984, I started by default really, a young lad who lived across the road from me wanted me to take him to a local Shotokan Club as his dad wasnt home in time.
I was just there to watch him as he was very nervous, but the instructor said as I was there why didnt I join in and stand with him, and that was me hooked. I studied Shotokan under Sensei Dave Pickford for just over 4 years gaining my 3rdKyu and entered most Kumite Competitions around the South/ South West.
I was out of action for a few years with a persistent knee injury, but got back into Martial Arts studying Aikido and then in October 2002 I started studying Washinkai with Sensei Paul Hacker. I was a regular competitor in all Washinkai competitions in both Kata and Kumite. I started helping out with teaching at the Honbu in 2008 and in November 2009 I opened my own club in Queen Camel and I have just had my first student grade for her Black Belt at the 2012 Autumn Gasshuku. I still train as often as I can with Sensei Hacker at the Honbu and regularly attend courses and Gasshuku.
